Why does KDP require an even page count?
Books are printed on physical sheets of paper, and each sheet has two sides (front and back). This means each physical leaf creates two pages. Therefore, the total page count must always be even. If your manuscript has an odd number of content pages, KDP will add a blank page to make the total even.
Key Details
- Each physical sheet = 2 pages (front and back)
- KDP automatically adds a blank page if your content is odd-numbered
- Page count includes all pages: title page, copyright, content, and blank pages
- This applies to both paperback and hardcover formats
