How do I calculate the spine width for my KDP book?
Spine width = page count × paper thickness per page. The thickness depends on your ink/paper type: B&W on White is 0.002252" per page, B&W on Cream is 0.0025", Standard Color is 0.002252", and Premium Color is 0.002347" per page.
Key Details
- Formula: spine_width = page_count × thickness_per_page
- B&W on White: 0.002252" per page
- B&W on Cream: 0.0025" per page
- Standard Color: 0.002252" per page
- Premium Color: 0.002347" per page
- Example: 200 pages × 0.002252" = 0.4504" spine width (B&W White)
- Example: 300 pages × 0.0025" = 0.75" spine width (B&W Cream)
- For hardcover, add 0.189" (board thickness) to the calculated spine width
